MONTHLY WORKSHOP:

STEP INTO YOUR STORY (WORKSHOP)

Every Third Saturday (2:30-5:00 p.m. ET)

This AWA-styled, ZOOM workshop is designed to create a safe space where you, as a memoirist, can learn to write your life story with selectivity about what to include and intent about the form you want to take. Each workshop will include discussions about memoir: how is memoir distinct from autobiography? what forms can memoir take? where do you start? what voice should you use?  as well as prompts and activities designed to help writers think through and get started with the memoirs you want to write.

The first half of the workshop will be spent in brief discussion before generating new writing using prompts. After a short break, the second half will be spent:

  • Reading aloud the work you've generated during the session (voluntary).  Providing AWA-styled feedback (i.e., looking for the strengths in the material).

  • Each workshop will begin with a five-minute somatic exercise or meditation

This workshop is limited to ten participants.

Your investment is $20.00/session, payable using Venmo or Zelle. The fee is non-refundable.

Workshops will take place on ZOOM.

"Within the past year I’ve attended multiple workshops with Jill. The prompts she
chooses are always inspiring and never similar, giving the writer many chances to
challenge themselves and write in different ways. One of my favorite things about the
workshops is the sharing and “non-direct” responses to the writer. Addressing the
person who just read as “the author” or “narrator” rather than using their name or the
pronoun “you” allows for both the writer and reader to separate themselves from the
work, eliminating judgment. It also allows the writer to respond to the prompts in a more
candid and honest manner.

I would tell someone who is considering taking one of these workshops to go for it!
Judgment is non-existent and the feedback received is incredibly helpful. Whether you
are writing for yourself, or hoping to one day publish for a larger audience, the
experience in these groups will absolutely prepare you for whatever your goals are."
